On October 19-20, ARCA will attend the 9th annual National Arts Service Organisations meeting taking place in Ottawa in partnership with the Canada Council for the Arts. This year’s organizing committee – including ARCA again this year – has built on last year’s success by planning a two-day meeting which affords more opportunity for participants to share expertise and network with peers and funders. This year’s meeting’s focus is on research initiatives in the arts sector.
The committee has therefore planned small group discussions to learn about NASO initiated research in collaboration with consultants as well as a panel discussion with representatives from Business for the Arts, the Metcalf Foundation, Heritage Canada, Statistics Canada and the Canada Council. Participants will learn about who is doing what, leading, potentially, to better circulation of knowledge and partnerships.
As in previous years, Canada Council’s CEO – newly appointed Simon Brault – will address the group and respond to questions, some of which were submitted in advance by members of the committee.
Considering how this is a pre-election year, the committee has also scheduled a closed door meeting of the NASOs and a facilitated plenary discussion on Future perspectives for the arts in Canada with guest speaker Frédéric Julien, a volunteer with the Canadian Coalition for the Arts.
