ARCA is proud to announce the upcoming publication of PERFORMANCE ART PRESENTATION IN CANADA TODAY, a summary of the LIVE Retreat minutes, Vancouver October 9 & 10, 2012, in INTER, ART ACTUEL – #115 fall issue, prepared by Stacey Ho and Randy Gledhill with the support of the Artist-Run Centres and Collectives Conference / La Conférence des collectifs et des centres d’artistes autogérés (ARCCC/CCCAA, aka ARCA).

ARCA is proud to share some thoughts on its recent participation in the East of There meeting held from June 20-23 in Saint John, NB, an event organized to coincide with the annual assemblies of the Association of Artist-Run Centres from the Atlantic (AARCA) and Atlantic Provinces Art Galleries Association (APAGA).

From April 18 to 21, 2013, and on the invitation of organizers Shannon Stratton (Threewalls, Chicago, IL), Abigail Satinsky (Threewalls), Courtney Fink (Southern Exposure, San Francisco, CA), Elizabeth Chodos, (Ox-Bow, Saugatuck, MI/Chicago, IL) and Nat May (SPACE, Portland, ME), ARCA board member Jonathan Middleton (PAARC; Or Gallery) attended a convening of nearly 30 arts administrators from artist-run and artist-focused arts organizations from across the United States.

Members of the Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec (RCAAQ) met over the course of two days on the topic of self-financing – a topic that has, over the course of the last years, increasingly infiltrated, if not monopolized conversations in boards across the ARC network.

Ten years after Tiré à part/Off Printing, a symposium on publishing in artist-run centres, organised by Le Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogéré du Québec (RCAAQ), the Artist-Run Centres and Collectives Conference (ARCCC/CCCAA, aka ARCA) is proud to announce that, in recognition of recent shifts and developments in independent art publishing, it will be organizing a forum on the topic of Independent art writing, production and circulation as part of East of There, an expanded meeting of visual art professionals to take place at the New Brunswick museum from June 20-23, 2013.

Todd Janes, President and Anne Bertrand, Director attended a day-long meeting on October 22nd with fellow National Arts Service Organizations and the Canada Council for the Arts.

On the agenda, a conversation on the topic of “change” as outlined in the news release of October 10th 2012. This was followed by small group discussions on how the “change” agenda can contribute to reinforcing public engagement with the arts.

ARCA is pleased to join the Or Gallery in inviting members of our network to the premiere of Heidi Phillips’ video during a reception to be held October 11, at 6 p.m., in the Or Gallery foyer. With some of the material so generously provided by the centres, filmmaker Heidi Phillips was commissioned to produce a communications video capturing our network of artist-run centres in all its nuances and manifestations of vitality. Come join ARCA’s team of dedicated regional and cultural representatives as we raise a glass in recognition of our unique artist-run culture while also inaugurating the Institutions by Artists convention.
