Next ARCA Face-To-Face Meeting: February 27- 28, 2014, Montréal

ARCA’s board of directors will be meeting in Montréal, on Thursday and Friday February 27 and 28 2014 at 2 Sainte-Catherine Est. Members of local artist-run centres are invited to meet ARCA’s representatives by joining them at the opening reception of Daniel Canty’s exhibition titled Bucky Ball at Artexte information centre on the Thursday February 27th at 5pm, and to join members of l’Association des groupes en arts visuels francophones (AGAVF) taking part in the jè-st’, festival d’art performatif et d’intervention (Moncton, septembre 2011) book launch at the Formats bookstore, next door.

The meeting will focus on evaluating past activities in order to establish future priorities with updates on current files such as upcoming regional and local conferences; Advocacy efforts for funding for visual arts writing and publishing will be the object of a more focused discussion so as to establish a clearer strategy. Members will also discuss ARCA’s advocacy initiatives at Heritage Canada, and its role within national bodies such as the Visual Arts Alliance and the Canadian Arts Coalition leading members to set priorities for the immediate and longer term. On the Friday morning, a workshop on the topic of facility projects will be offered (mainly in English) to ARCA members as well as members of the RCAAQ; starting with some basic questions, participants will examine their centre’s mission and its relation to space and space security. An invitation will be circulated by the RCAAQ in the next days.

  • Secretary : Bastien Gilbert, representative of the Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec (RCAAQ), Executive Director of RCAAQ in Montreal QC;
  • Treasurer : Lise Leblanc, representative of the Association des groupes en arts visuels francophones (AGAVF), Executive Director of AGAVF in Ottawa ON;
  • Michel Boutin, representative of the Aboriginal Region, artist, cultural animator and artistic director for IPAC, (the indigenous Peoples Artist Collective), Prince Albert, SK.
  • Brenda Cleniuk, representative of Plains Artist-Run Centres Association (PARCA), Director of Neutral Ground in Regina SK;
  • John Cushnie, representative of the Association of Artist-Run Centres from the Atlantic (AARCA), Director of Gallery Connexion in Fredericton NB;
